My experience at Alton Towers... how I broke my neck! - Courage Oseghale (watch videos)

Hey CB readers! On Saturday 22 October, 2016, I went over to
Alton towers Resort that is commonly being referred to as Alton towers which is
located at Farley Ln, Alton, Staffordshire. I really had a wonderful
experience. I know you are like, ‘did you go alone?’ Nope, I actually went with
my proper friends from the Kingdom Hall (I’m one of Jehovah’s Witnesses). I had
proper fun. This is the full story of the trip… and how I got my neck broke after the cut...
Let’s talk about Alton towers first!
The site (Alton Towers) opened in 1860 with flower shows and
garden tours until a theme park was built on the site in 1980. The theme park
opened on 4 April 1980. The park operates nine roller coasters among other
major attractions including Nemesis, Oblivion, Congo River Rapids, Runaway Mine
Train, Hex - The Legend of the Towers, Thirteen, and The Smiler. In 2016, Air
was rethemed as Galactica, as the "world's first roller coaster dedicated
to virtual reality". Sounds fun, right? Let’s continue…
Alton Towers Hotel opened in 1996, it was the first onsite
accommodation to be built at the resort. It was followed in 2003 by the
Caribbean-themed Splash Landings Hotel with an adjoining water park. A development
of woodland lodges was completed in 2015, as the Enchanted Village. The resort
also includes conference facilities, crazy golf and a high ropes course (It’s
really high, trust me. Don’t attempt if you are scared of height like me…
ha-ha, just kidding.)
On most days, the theme park operates between 10am and 5pm,
however operating hours can change based on expected attendance. The park hosts
special events throughout the year, such as concert nights, a Scare fest event
for Halloween, and an end-of-season fireworks display.
It’s a pity I can’t write so much about Alton Towers because
I didn’t create it… ha-ha. But if you really want to know the full story just
search Alton Towers on google. YAY!!! All solved! Now, let me tell you the full
story about my total and satisfying experience at Alton Towers with my mates!
I woke up super early!!!
Oh yes! I woke up at about 5.30am. I literally woke my alarm
up which was to wake me up at 6.00am. Oh yeah! I jumped off my bed, did all the
normal real quick because me and my friends was to meet at Charlie Anderson’s
house at about 8.00am.
Its 7.50am, Steve Coulson came right on time to pick me up
to head to Charlie’s house (I’ve not got a car yetJ). We got to Charlie’s house
by 7.59am… we were right on time! In Charlie’s house, I met Zoe, Lorna,
Natalie, Robin, Kortu, Ama Banda, and Billy, Charlie’s brother. So in total we
were 10 (5 Lads and Ladies… No strings attached :P) who went over to Alton
Towers.

The Journey
We set off at about half 9. The lads went in Kortu’s car
while the ladies went on Charlie’s car, No gender stereotype here though! Much
didn’t happen on our way to Alton Towers though… we had a proper nice and safe
journey. Oh yeah! We saw a sick accident about 16 miles from Alton. We didn’t
witness the accident! Finally we got to Alton towers at about 11:45am.
Alton Towers Resort, We are finally here!
I was super surprise to see a whole city there. It was super
filled up with both kids, teenagers, adults and even the elderly ones, all
there to have some scary fun, ha-ha! From the Tower car park, we all took a
train which was just about 2 minutes from the car pack to the main Alton Park.
I enjoyed the music that was played on the train which I danced to... lol. We
paid for our tickets and was given map for the resort so as to know the exact
place we are and where we are going to so as not to get lost in the resort.
Now, we were proper hungry and cold. So, I (Courage), Steve,
Kortu and Rob went to a coffee shop to get a proper hot coffee drink and a hot
dog sausage so as to keep us warm. The ladies and Billy left us though for the
first ride, OblivionL!
Now this is where the experience gets super interesting!!!
First Ride, Oblivion!
Oblivion has got the greatest drop/fall. It’s basically the
ride at a very top point and falling or dropping vertically, straight down.
It’s really scary. Watch video of the oblivion ride below…
Second Ride, Thirteen 13!
This ride is still my favourite. It was so smooth! Had
proper fun riding it. This ride’s section is the ‘Dark Forest.’ This is where
Kortu’s story entered. Kortu excused himself from riding on Oblivion saying he
just had hot dog, and a drink, so therefore he is going to vomit after the
ride. That made him not go on the First ride. Now on this ride, 13, Kortu was
properly scared and was literally crying. He’s got no excuse not to go on this
ride though. I’ll post images of Kortu’s face during the ride and also, the full
video clip of the 13 ride. Before all of that, we got into a long annoying queue
which took over 70 minutes.
I broke my neck! Third Ride, Nemesis!!!
This was really a nemesis! I broke my neck, literally! After
the ‘13’ ride, we left the ‘Dark Forest’ for the ‘Forbidden Valley’ in which
Nemesis is. It was a long walk though as you would have seen from the map
above. This was about 3:15pm. The queue here was much more that the ’13’ queue.
It was about 120 minutes long. Oh yeah, we waited. We all had proper talk…
which made the time to run so fast.
Are you wondering where Kortu is after his first ride? Kortu
gave up this ride. He didn’t join us, not even queueing with us… ha-ha. After
the long queue, finally we are on the ride. This was my moment of truth! I sat
down in the middle of the ride with Robin. Robin tried his best to calm me down
but I wasn’t just with him. My mind has already fast forwarded me to the end of
the ride. I guess you know that feeling? I told Robin, “I will just close my
eyes throughout the ride.” I said that just encourage myself. That didn’t work.
The ride started, I forgot the instruction that was given before
going on the rides, “Rest your back to your seat.” I totally forgot. My neck
was out. The ride span around, my neck lost control, and that was how it
happened. My neck isn’t the same anymore, lol. My neck was just hanging out the
seat all through the ride.
Finally, we got off, I instantly felt sick. My neck was
stiff, my stomach was proper disorganised. Flipping heck! I almost vomited!!!
We went to a burger shop to get dinner. The burger actually
stopped the disorganised stomach but as for the neck, I felt like my neck
wasn’t holding my head. This was how I broke my neck from Nemesis ride.

Had Break, Galactica, Nemesis Again, Rita, Oblivion Again,
and Spinball Whizzer.
Now we are so cold. Cold from the rides, queues… it wasn’t
easy. To get the cold outta our body, we went to the nearest coffee shop close
to us which we ordered a proper hot coffee which made our body proper warm. But
wait! Something funny happened at the coffee shop. Charlie’s drink that she
ordered was given to a lad name Richard. Who is Richard? I don’t know too… now,
Richard’s drink was now passed on to Charlie with his name on the drink.
Charlie got confused, she called out Richard’s name, “RICHARD! RICHARD!!
RICHARD!!!” Richard was nowhere to be found. We all also joined Charlie on
shouting the Lad’s name. People at the shop got proper confused and were like,
‘who is Richard?’ Anyway, No Richard… he was nowhere to be found. Charlie had
to take Richard’s drink. I guess they got the same drink that’s why the
confusion entered.
After the hot drink and a ‘warm’ rest at the shop, we all
headed to the Galactica ride. This time, I wasn’t able to go on the ride
because of the neck pain Nemesis gave to me. Galactica is the ride with the
virtual reality (VR). The ride is cool to me but it wasn’t to others, I don’t
know why. Or maybe it’s because I didn’t go on it. Well, Steve and others apart
from me and Kortu went on the ride. We all queued together just to talk and
while away the time. All went fine, they had a good ride by the way.
Nemesis Again?! Yes, they all went on that ride the second
time. I don’t know how this ride is so cool for them… It broke my Neck!!!
Rita was the Ride I actually anticipated for but look at me
now, I can’t cos of my neck pain. Before I forget, I had Steve to crack my back
after the Nemesis ride. It was the coolest back crack I’ve ever had. Good one,
Steve!
Back to the matter! Rita goes 0 – 60 MPH in 3 seconds.
That’s faster than a Lamborghini Gallardo which only go 0 – 60 MPH in 3.8
seconds (Don’t ask me how I know this, I love cars :p). I’ve always wanted to
be on a fast ride but now that I’ve got the chance, Nemesis caught up with me,
ha-ha. Well, they went on it apart from
me and kortu, screamed their life out but had good fun.
Before we left the section we were in, Kortu won a Minion! Yes he did won it. He played a game like that so well. Even though he missed some balls, but he still won. Good stuff, Kortu!
Oblivion Again?! Oh yes!
Spinball Whizzer… ha-ha, I can’t explain how this ride goes
because I didn’t go on it but they had proper fun.
Finally, Time to go home.
Its 9:20pm, we didn’t know where we packed the cars. We went
all over the car pack section to find the cars but it wasn’t there. We got
confused, we then decided to head back to the point that we started the car
park journey until someone among us said we should check the car pack we all
neglected. Oh yeah! The cars were there… Great stuff!
On our way home, we stopped at the countryside road to see
the stars. Stars are hardly seen in cities because of the lighting in each and
every part of it. Yes! The view was Superb! I saw a shooting star which was so
cool.
By the time, it was so late that we had to get back on the
road and go home. Yes, we got home safely but late, at about 12.25 am.
To conclude, we all a proper time, fun and laugh.
This was my full experience at Alton Towers.
